The film was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, winning the Oscar for Best Costume Design. 9th June 1961 – The Hound of the Baskervilles, a 1959 Hammer Films Production starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and André Morell was screened in the Hall (source: a General Film Distributors letter dated 13th January 1961, see also Connacht Tribune 3rd June 1961, page 15). It is based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1902 Sherlock Holmes novel of the same name. 30th July 1961 – Merry Andrew, a 1958 Musical starring Danny Kaye and Pier Angeli was screened in the Hall (source: Connacht Tribune 29th July 1961, page 15). 8th August 1961 – Vertigo, a 1958 Hitchcock Film Noir thriller, starring James Stewart and Kim Novak, was shown in the Hall at 9pm, (source: Hall Journal, see also Connacht Tribune 5th August 1961, page 13). 20th August 1961 – Shake Hands With The Devil, a 1959 movie set during the Irish War of Independence, starring James Cagney, Dana Wynter, Richard Harris and Glynis Johns was screened in the Hall (source: a General Film Distributors letter dated 13th January 1961, see also Connacht Tribune 19th August 1961, page 13). 5th September 1961 – North By Northwest, a 1959 Hitchcock spy thriller starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, was screened in the Hall (source: Hall Journal, see also Connacht Tribune 2nd September 1961, page 13).
