Apologies to hundreds turned away, unable to gain admission. The greatest galaxy of talent ever: Starring Harold Norman, Charles Fry, Alec de Gabriele, James Flynn, Olive Vivian, Maureen O’Conner, Molly Kelly, Jannette Chauver Chance and full cast. Cinemas, Halls wanted, 17th onwards. Coms: De Gabriele, PO Banagher.” 25th February 1941 – The Saint in New York, a 1938 film adapted from the 1935 Leslie Charteris Simon Templar novel of the same name, was screened in the Hall by the Caslin Travelling Picture Company (source: Hall Journal). This movie marks the first screen appearance of Templar, aka The Saint. Louis Hayward stars as the title character, with Kay Sutton as his love interest. This was the first of eight RKO films 55 made about The Saint. 4th March 1941 – Only Angels Have Wings, a 1939 adventure film starring Cary Grant, Jean Arthur and Rita Hayworth, was screened in the Hall by the Caslin Travelling Picture Company (source: Hall Journal). 31st March to 6th April 1941 – Vic Loving & Her Flash Parade performed their All Star Variety in the Hall on 7 successive nights. The Flash Parade played the Astaire Ballroom Galway a couple of weeks after their visit to Athenry and the Connacht Tribune 19th April 1941, page 7, carried the following piece about the Astaire run under the heading Vaudeville Show For Galway: "Flash Parade, Miss Vic Loving's musical vaudeville show, commences a week's run at the Astaire Ballroom, Galway, on Monday, April 21st. An old favourite in Galway, Miss Loving, the famous IrishAmerican character impressionist, will be supported by twenty first-class musical hall stars, including the Chicago Kid (stop dancer, instrumentalist and drummer), Francisco Macari and his Accordeon Band, and the Flash Parade Dancing Girls. For particulars re prices of admission, see advertisement in this issue.” 17th April 1941 – Torchy Plays with Dynamite, a 1939 movie starring Jane Wyman as Torchy Blane, was screened in the Hall by the Caslin Travelling Picture Company (source: Hall Journal). 20th May 1941 – Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, a 1939 American mystery movie starring Bonita Granville as Nancy Drew, was screened in the Hall by the Caslin Travelling Picture Company (source: Hall Journal). It was the fourth and last film in the Nancy Drew series released by Warner Bros. between 1938 and 1939. This was also Bonita Granville’s last film at Warner Brothers before she signed with MGM. 27th May 1941 – Dodge City, a 1939 Western starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, and Ann Sheridan, was screened in the Hall by the Caslin Travelling Picture Company (source: Hall Journal).
