It stars Margaret Lockwood, Phyllis Calvert, Stewart Granger, James Mason, Martita Hunt and Raymond Lovell. NB: The screenplay was adapted from Eleanor Smith’s 1941 novel of the same name. 8th June 1947 – The Tower of London, a 1939 Universal Pictures Historical Horror Drama starring Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, Barbara O’Neill, Ian Hunter, Vincent Price, Nan Grey and Leo G Carroll was screened in the Hall by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). NB: Basil Rathbone plays the future Richard III. Leo Carroll is probably best remembered for playing Commander Alexander Waverly in the 1960s NBC TV spy series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. 12th June 1947 – The Rage of Paris, a 1938 Universal Pictures Comedy was screened in the Hall by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). This film stars Danielle Darrieux, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Mischa Auer, Louis Hayward, Helen Broderick and Charles Coleman. 15th June 1947 – Girl Overboard, a 1937 Universal Pictures Mystery movie starring Gloria Stewart, Walter Pidgeon and Hobart Cavanaugh was screened in the Hall by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). NB: Directed by Sidney Salkow, it would be screened again on 28th November 1948 by E Smith. 19th June 1947 – The Young in Heart, a 1938 United Artists Comedy Drama was screened in the Hall by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). It stars Janet Gaynor, Paulette Goddard, Roland Young, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Billie Burke and Minnie Dupree. 22nd June 1947 – It’s a Date, a 1940 Universal Pictures Musical was screened in the Hall by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). It stars Deanna Durbin, Kay Francis, Walter Pidgeon, SZ Sakall, Virginia Brissac and Eugene Pallette. 26th June 1947 – My Man Godfrey, a 1936 Universal Pictures ‘Screwball’ Comedy was screened by McGovern (source: Hall Journal). William Powell stars, along with Carole Lombard, Gail Patrick, Alice Brady and Eugene Palette. Talking Pictures TV synopsis: “An eccentric socialite hires a drifter as a family butler – but there's more to him than meets the eye.” NB: Directed by Gregory La Cava, it would be screened again on 3rd December 1948.
