This Basil Dearden directed film stars Mervyn Johns, Glynis Johns, Tom Walls and Françoise Rosay. NB: Glynis Johns was Mervyn John’s daughter. 12th May 1946 – Sensations of 1945, a 1944 United Artists Musical Comedy was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). This Andrew L Stone directed film stars Eleanor Powell, C Aubrey Smith, WC Fields, Eugene Pallette, Sophie Tucker, Cab Calloway and Les Paul. 13th & 14th May 1946 – Laura, a 1944 Twentieth Century Fox Film Noir, adapted from Vera Caspary’s 1943 novel of the same title, was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: the Hall Journal). Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price and Judith Anderson star. NB: Directed by Otto Preminger it won an Academy Award for Best B&W Cinematography and would be screened in the Hall again on 30th July 1950, see below. 16th May 1946 – They Came to a City, a 1944 Ealing Studios Fantasy Drama was shown by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). The screenplay was adapted from JB Priestley’s 1943 play. John Clements, Googie Withers, Raymond Huntley, Renee Gadd, AE Matthews and JB Priestley (as Himself) star. Talking Pictures TV: “Nine people from different walks of life find themselves transported to a mysterious city.” 18th & 19th May 1946 – Irish Eyes Are Smiling, a 1944 Twentieth Century Fox Musical Biopic was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). This film chronicles the life of Irish composer Ernest R Ball and stars Dick Haymes (as Ernest Ball) with Monty Woolley, June Haver, Anthony Quinn and Veda Ann Borg. 21st May 1946 – Hangmen Also Die!, a 1943 United Artists WW2 Noir was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). This film stars Brian Donlevy, Walter Brennan, Alexander Granach, Anna Lee, Margaret Wycherly, Gene Lockhart, Dennis O'Keefe and Lionel Stander. NB: Lionel Stander is probably best remembered for playing Max in 1979-84 TV series Hart to Hart, alongside Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers. 23rd May 1946 – Knickerbocker Holiday, a 1944 United Artists Romantic Musical Comedy was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). It stars Nelson Eddy, Charles Coburn and Constance Dowling. NB: It would be screened again on 3rd August 1948 by O Smith. 26th May 1946 – Here Come the Co-Eds, a 1945 Universal Pictures Comedy was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). This film stars comedy duo Abbott & Costello along with Peggy Ryan, Martha O'Driscoll, June Vincent and Lon Chaney Jr. 28th May 1946 – Dangerous Blondes (aka Reckless Lady and The Case of the Dangerous Blondes) , a 1943 Columbia Pictures Comedy Murder Mystery movie was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: the Hall Journal). It stars Allyn Joslyn, Evelyn Keyes, Edmund Lowe, Anita Louise, John Hubbard, William Demarest, Hobart Cavanaugh and Lynn Merrick. NB: Directed by Leigh Jason. 30th May 1946 – Patrick the Great, a 1945 Universal Pictures Drama was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: the Hall Journal).
