This film stars Anne Baxter, William Eythe, Michael O'Shea and Vincent Price. NB: The screenplay was adapted from Maxwell Anderson’s 1942 play of the same name. 18th April 1946 – Greenwich Village, a 1944 Twentieth Century Fox Musical Comedy was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). Carmen Miranda, Don Ameche, William Bendix, Vivian Blaine and Felix Bressart star in this film. 21st April 1946 – The Hairy Ape, a 1944 United Artists Drama starring William Bendix, Susan Hayward, John Loder, Dorothy Comingore and Alan Napier was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). NB: The screenplay was adapted from Eugene O'Neill’s 1922 play of the same name. 23rd April 1946 – Goodbye Mr Chips, a 1939 MGM Romantic Drama starring Robert Donat, Greer Garson and John Mills was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). NB: The screenplay was based on James Hilton’s 1934 Novella of the same name, published by Hodder & Stoughton. Robert Donat (as Mr Chips aka Mr Chipping) won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in this film. The 1969 MGM Musical version of this story, starring Peter O’Toole & Petula Clark, would be screened in the Hall on 6th August 1972. 25th April 1946 – Three Smart Girls Grow Up, a 1939 Universal Pictures Musical Comedy was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: the Hall Journal). This comedy film stars Deanna Durbin, Nan Grey and Helen Parrish. NB: It would be screened in the Hall again on 28th May 1950 and was a sequel to Three Smart Girls (1936). 28th April 1946 – The Lady and the Monster, a 1944 Republic Pictures Horror Sci-Fi film starring Vera Ralston, Richard Arlen and Erich von Stroheim was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). 30th April 1946 – The House of Rothschild, a 1934 United Artists Historical Drama starring George Arliss, Loretta Young, Boris Karloff, Robert Young, C Aubrey Smith and Helen Westley was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). NB: The screenplay was adapted from George Hembert Westley’s 1932 unproduced play, about the Rothschild Family of European Bankers, by Westley himself. 2nd May 1946 – Pin Up Girl, a 1944 Twentieth Century Fox Romantic Musical Comedy starring Betty Grable, John Harvey, Martha Raye and Joe E Brown was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal).NB: The screenplay was adapted from Imagine Us!, a 1942 short story by Libbie Block. 5th May 1946 – The Climax, a 1944 Universal Pictures Horror Film starring Boris Karloff, Susanna Foster, Turhan Bey, Gale Sondergaard, Thomas Gomez , June Vincent, George Dolenz and Ludwig Stössel was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). NB: The screenplay was loosely based on Edward Locke’s 1909 play of the same name. 7th May 1946 – Quiet Please: Murder (aka Death from the Sanskrit) a 1942 Twentieth Century Fox Drama starring George Sanders, Gail Patrick and Richard Denning was screened in the Hall by Daniel Ryan (source: Hall Journal). NB: The screenplay was based on Lawrence G Blochman’s 1942 short story, Death Walks in Marble Halls.
